Conference activities begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, March 5 with the Reception for New Coordinators and closes at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8 following the NSE Business Meeting. The Conference concludes with a campus visit to University of New Orleans and banquet.

The NSE Professional Institute (required for first-year coordinators) begins at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6. NPI attendees should plan travel arrival for Tuesday, March 5.

The Conference opens with the Welcome and Plenary Session on March 6 at 4:00 p.m. Those attendees arriving on Wednesday, March 5, should plan arrival by early afternoon.

Mardi Gras festivities will be in full swing on March 2-5, 2019. If you arrive during a parade, streets may be blocked and ground transportation may be restricted, requiring a walk of several blocks to the hotel. Check the parade schedule for the best arrival times. Normal hotel access will resume on March 6.

The conference business meeting concludes at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 8 followed by a tour of the University of New Orleans and closing banquet, concluding at 9 p.m. Campus tours on Saturday, March 9 will visit Louisiana State University and Southern University in Baton Rouge, returning at 6 p.m.

If departing following the annual business meeting on Friday, March 8, please plan flights for 5 p.m. or later.

Accommodations are available March 5 – 9, 2019 at the discounted rate of $169 per night for conference attendees. A $2.00 Occupancy Tax and 15.75% Room Tax per night will be added.

Hotel Services include free wifi, 24-hour room service, concierge, ATM, and business center. Hotel valet parking is available for $47/day.

Built in 1852, the Astor is one of the oldest New Orleans hotels. The Astor Alexa Tower includes brick from the original French Quarter construction while the rest of the hotel is housed in a building that was formerly a Woolworth store and now includes Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House and Seafood Bar. The restaurant offers a rich array of tantalizing Creole specialties, freshly caught seafood, BBQ Shrimp, steaks and decadent desserts.

Plan flights to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) located approximately 16 miles from the conference hotel.

Ground Transportation
Taxi fare from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to the Astor Crowne Plaza is $36 for up to two passengers. For three or more passengers, the fare is $15 per passenger.

Airport Shuttle New Orleans will offer NSE participants reduced rate service from the airport to the Astor Hotel for $20 (per person, one way) or $40 (per person, round trip) with at least 24-hour advance reservation. Conference attendees are encouraged to utilize the New Orleans streetcars to travel throughout the city. Most restaurants for Wednesday evening’s Dine Around will be accessible via streetcar. Streetcar fare is $1.25 per ride (exact change required) or day passes may be purchased online.
